Course structure

In the Bachelor's programme in Architecture at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, students work in a thematically determined design studio each semester. One professor personally supervises each studio. The design work is accompanied by a coordinated basic course. The bachelor's programme thus teaches both the scientific fundamentals and the associated methodological skills. The course is divided into the following subjects:

  • Design
  • Integral design
  • Civil engineering
  • Theoretical and historical foundations
  • Design and representation
  • Urban and landscape planning
  • Consolidation
  • Interdisciplinary qualification

The aim of the course is to enable students to successfully complete a consecutive Master's degree course and to apply the knowledge acquired in a professional field.

New study regulations for the winter semester 2021/22

In the winter semester 2021/22, new study regulations will come into force for the Bachelor's degree programme in Architecture. It will automatically apply to all students who start their studies in winter semester 2021/22.

Internship

The study and examination regulations do not provide for a compulsory internship. An internship in the building trade is also not required. It is strongly recommended that students complete a continuous six-month office internship during their architecture studies, which is suitable for giving the student an idea of the practical work of an architect. No credit points are assigned to the six-month office internship. It does not count towards the overall grade. If proof of an office internship is provided, it will be included in the transcript of records and noted there as a special qualification.

Selection procedure

The Bachelor's programme is subject to limited admission.
