Material Library

Materialbibliothek

The materials library, with its extensive digital and physical collection of material samples, not only serves to deepen and illustrate the lecture series on materials science in the bachelor's degree program, but also provides students with valuable assistance for working on exercises and in the design process.
In addition to the presentation of common building materials, the focus in the future will be on the main topics "Materials from waste", "Materials from cultivation" and "Building materials from local resources of our region". These thematic focuses on important issues of the 21st century will make the KIT Materials Library an international focal point for targeted research and teaching.

The Materials Library is to function as a vessel for knowledge storage and knowledge transfer regarding innovative building materials for the present and the future in order to educate the new generation of visionary and interested young people who are able to think transdisciplinarily and scientifically and to act sustainably.

Changing exhibitions provide information on specific topics, such as natural insulating materials or native wood species. Student work from the subject of materials science as well as from materials-specific research seminars is firmly integrated into the materials library, both digitally and physically. Students themselves are thus actively involved in the expansion of the Materials Library.
