Material of the city, der architekt 04/2020

der architekt der architekt

The current issue of the magazine "der Architekt", published by the Association of German Architects, explores the question of what it means to re-use and re-purpose materials from buildings for new architecture. In addition to the material dimension of recycling and upcycling, the issue examines the symbolic character inherent in every material and building element.

Two professors of the department have also contributed:

Prof. Dirk E. Hebel (Chair of Sustainable Building) explains in his article "Ungeheure Möglichkeiten - Die Stadt als Rohstofflager" (Tremendous possibilities - the city as a raw material store) the enormous potential of reusing building materials, using the example of the Mehrwert.Pavillons at the Federal Horticultural Show Heilbronn.

In his contribution to the discussion "New Routine, New Aesthetics",Prof. Dr. Riklef Rambow (Chair of Architectural Communication) predicts that the rethinking of existing buildings can only succeed by turning away from traditional approaches.
