1977 - 1979 Worked as an architect/planner in the municipal building authority of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

1981 - 1984 Study of free art with Thomas Bayrle, Reimer Jochims et al.

at the State Academy of Fine Arts (Städelschule) in Frankfurt/M.

Since 1982 free artistic activity (painting, graphics, sculpture, film)

1984 - 1994 Professorship for design theory and architectural representation at the

Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences, Department of Architecture

Since 1989 Freelance architect, joint office with Sophie Wolfrum in Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and Munich

1994 Appointment as Professor (Ordinarius) for Fundamentals of Architecture and Head of the Institute

for Fundamentals of Design at the University of Karlsruhe (TH)

1994 - 2013 Teaching and research activities at the Department of Architecture of the

University of Karlsruhe (TH, now KIT); Dean of the Department of Architecture (2004-08)
