Live, Love, Arch - Towards a Methodic Optimism Die Vortragsreihe der Fakultät für Architektur im Sommersemester 2016. Zu Gast: Gramazio Kohler Research (ETH, Zürich) In our research we examine the changes in architectural production requirements that result from introducing digital manufacturing techniques. Our special interest lies in combining data and material and the resulting implications this has on the architectural design. The possibility of directly fabricating building components described on the computer expands not only the spectrum of possibilities for construction, but, by the direct implementation of material and production logic into the design process, it establishes a unique architectural expression and a new aesthetic. Jan Sebastian Willmann graduated at the School of Built Environment at Oxford Brookes University with a Master of Architecture with Distinction at the Chair of Prof. Andrew Holmes and Prof. David Greene (Archigram). To establish his interest in linking architectural theory with computer-aided architectural design, he has been research associate at the Chair of Architectural Theory in Innsbruck (Prof. Bart Lootsma) where he also received his Ph.D. with Honors. Along with gaining working experience in various architectural offices, he did participate in a number of international research and exhibition projects in Germany, Austria and Italy. In his academic work Jan Sebastian focuses on the convergence of digital architecture and strategies of its material translation and contextualization. He has lectured and taught at many universities including venues such as Die Angewandte in Vienna, the Staatliche Akademie der bildenden Künste in Stuttgart and the University of Pennsylvania (Penn). Since 2011 Jan Sebastian holds a position as a senior researcher at the Chair of Architecture and Digital Fabrication (Prof. Fabio Gramazio, Prof. Matthias Kohler) at the ETH Zurich. http://gramaziokohler.arch.ethz.ch Die Vorträge sind öffentlich und kostenlos.
