The Aesthetics of Obscurity: Unearthing state violence as a counter-forensic practice.

Forensic Architecture is an independent research agency based at Goldsmiths, University of London. Their interdisciplinary team of investigators includes architects, scholars, artists, filmmakers, software developers, investigative journalists, archaeologists, lawyers, and scientists.Their evidence is presented in political and legal forums, truth commissions, courts, and human rights reports. They also undertake historical and theoretical examinations of the history and present status of forensic practices in articulating notions of public truth.

Von sichtbar Machen und sichtbar Werden
Was ist beabsichtigt, wenn etwas sichtbar gemacht werden soll? Wie läuft dieser Prozess ab? Was wird am Ende sichtbar, und wie? Wird überhaupt etwas sichtbar? Und wenn nicht, warum? Die Gespräche am IKB im Sommersemester 2018 wollen diese Fragen über den Zusammenhang von Intention, Form und Wirkung von Visualisierung(en) aus verschiedenen disziplinären Perspektiven reflektieren.  Der Focus liegt auf den Begriffen, Praktiken und Kulturen der Illusion, der Simulation und Deduktion sowie der Absenz von Sichtbarkeit.

On Making Visible and Getting Visible
What is intended, when something should be made visible? How does this process happen? What gets visible eventually, and how? Does something get visible at all? And if not, why? The conversations at IKB in Summer Term 2018 reflect these questions about the interdependence of intention, form and agency of visualization(s) from different disciplinary vantage points.  The discussion will focus on concepts, practices and cultures of illusion, simulation, deduction and absence of visibility.
