Double success at the Baden Architecture Award 2022

Members of the department are represented in two award categories.

At the "Baden Architecture Prize" awarded in mid-October, members of the department were represented in no less than two prize categories. For the design of the Karlsruhe light rail tunnel, the architectural office allmannwappner received the "Special Jury Prize". Founding partner and managing director of the office is Ludwig Wappner, professor for design and building construction at the Institute of Design and Building Technology (IEB).
The jury praised the uniform and restrained design of the interiors, which connects the underground structures into a self-contained sequence of spaces and contrasts with the visual and acoustic stimulus density in the squares and streets above.

The "Design Award" was presented to Lama Alkadi, Fabrizio Canessa and Andrea Santos. As part of their studies at the KIT Department of Architecture, they had designed a hygiene pavilion for the South Campus in 2019.
The pavilion consists of a scaffold-like structure that evolves from solid walls to ephemeral boundaries: Acrylic panels, polycarbonate, fabrics, steam.

An honorary prize went to the Freiburg Münster Bauverein. The master builder there is PD Dr.-Ing. Anne-Christine Brehm, a long-time academic staff member at the Chair of Construction and Architectural History.

In total, awards were presented in twelve categories at the second edition of the Baden Architecture Prize. The award ceremony took place on October 15.
