Steps of the PhD procedure
Acceptance as a PhD student
Mandatory registration with the Karlsruhe House of Young Scientists (KHYS)
Requirements for registration at KHYS:
- You have concluded a PhD agreement with your first supervisor.
- You have a KIT account
The client enters into a PhD agreement with the supervisor. The department receives a copy. The candidate then registers with KHYS via Docata. The certificate of registration must be enclosed with the application for acceptance.
The candidate submits an informal application to the Dean's Office with the necessary documents (see the PhD regulations). The PhD committee examines the application and the candidate receives an official letter of acceptance. Acceptance as a PhD candidate is initially for four years.
PhD procedure
When the PhD candidate has completed his/her dissertation, he/she submits three copies of it to the Dean's Office, together with a written application and the necessary documents (see the PhD regulations for these)..
Opening of the PhD examination procedure
Once all admission requirements have been met, the PhD procedure is initiated. The PhD student will be informed in writing and the supervisors will be asked for their opinion.
Oral examination
As soon as the reports are available, a date for the oral examination is set.
Publication of the PhD
According to the PhD regulations, the thesis must be published within one year after the oral examination. Only after submitting the deposit copies to the KIT library is the candidate entitled to hold and use the PhD degree.
