New at the department: Prof.'in i.V. Marion Clauss

Marion Clauss, born in Korbach (Hesse), trained as a structural draughtswoman before completing her advanced studies in integrated architecture, urban planning and landscape planning at the University of Kassel in 2005. She then worked for Arno Brandlhuber in Cologne, Christ & Gantenbein in Basel and Andreas Fuhrimann Gabrielle Hächler in Zurich. From 2011 to 2015 she was assistant to Prof. Christian Kerez at the Chair of Design at ETH Zurich.
In 2011, she founded her own studio together with Marco Merz. Since 2023, they have been working together with Christian Kahl on a handful of projects on a wide variety of scales. The studio is dedicated to residential and school buildings, urban development areas and the creative examination of existing buildings in prominent urban locations. Their work focuses on open, collaborative processes with interdisciplinary teams in order to develop and test multi-layered strategies for the city, architecture and society.
In 2024, the Lyse-Lotte residential and studio building in Basel won the swiss arc award for best residential building.
In addition to her work in the studio, Marion Clauss has been a member of the board of the Association of Swiss Architects (BSA) Basel since 2022. She has been a member of the Expert Council for Urban Development and Architecture of the City of St. Gallen since 2023 and a member of the Design Advisory Board of the City of Chur since 2025.
